Daniel plays Alexander Moore, a wealthy Anglo-Irishman whose friendship with Jerry Crowe, a working class local, is tested by class differences and the war. In this clip, Alexander resists his mother's demands that he join the army. Mrs. Moore is played by the great Sian Phillips, who would play Daniel's mother once again about 20 years later in Martin Scorsese's film of 'The Age Of Innocence'.
