Swing uses a strong rhythm section of double bass and drums as the anchor for a lead section of brass instruments such as trumpets and trombones, woodwinds including saxophones and clarinets, and sometimes stringed instruments such as violin and guitar, medium to fast tempos, and a "lilting" swing time rhythm. Swing bands usually featured soloists who would improvise on the melody over the arrangement. The danceable swing style of bandleaders such as Benny Goodman and Count Basie was the dominant form of American popular music from 1935 to 1945.The verb "to swing" is also used as a term of praise for playing that has a strong rhythmic "groove" or drive.(extract from Wikipedia 2011)"Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" Glenn MillerHere is a real treat for Glenn Miller fans. In October and November 1944 Glenn Miller and his American Band of the Allied Expeditionary Force made a series of propaganda recordings to be broadcast to Germany. These proved to be the last recordings Glenn Miller made shortly before he disappeared on a flight over the English Channel. They were forgotten until being discovered in the 1990s. In 1996 RCA released them on a two-CD set titled The Lost Recordings. The quality of the music is exceptional because they were made in London's Abbey Road Studio 1 where the Beatles later recorded. "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" written by Jerome Kern and Otto Harbach for the 1933 operetta Roberta was recorded on November 20,1944. The music was written and arranged by Ellington in August 1931 during intermissions at Chicago's Lincoln Tavern and was first recorded by Ellington and his orchestra for Brunswick Records (Br 6265) on February 2, 1932. Ivie Anderson sang the vocal and trombonist Joe Nanton and alto saxophonist Johnny Hodges played the instrumental solos. The title was based on the oft stated credo of Ellington's former trumpeter Bubber Miley, who was dying of tuberculosis. The song became famous, Ellington wrote, "as the expression of a sentiment which prevailed among jazz musicians at the time." Probably the first song to use the phrase "swing" in the title, it introduced the term into everyday language and presaged the Swing Era by three years. The Ellington band played the song continuously over the years and recorded it numerous times, most often with trumpeter Ray Nance as vocalist.THE BEST BOOGIE WOOGIE EVERDARREN GREEN PLAYING BOOGIE WOOGIE PIANOTommy Dorsey, "Marie"From the movie "The Fabulous Dorseys" (1947), with Janet Blair and singer Stuart Foster.Boogie Woogie PianoJohan Blohm from The Refreshments.Refreshments on Spotify:http://open.spotify.com/artist/31oqOoeYTFXYaENhMINVl8------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Refreshments on iTuneshttp://itunes.apple.com/se/artist/the-refreshments/id429682776?l=enBOOGIE WOOGIE.These two are both good but the male dancer is outstanding .. . . he never moves his shoulders compared to what his feet and knees are doing.
