Among them is her assistantOrmonte and three young designers from Italy: thedashing Arsace of Corinth (her current boyfriend), the shyArmindo of Rhodes (who is in love with her but too shyto say anything), and an audacious designer and businessrival of hers, Emilio of Cuman. Into the mix arrives anotheryoung man, Eurimene, who asks to stay in Naples.Arsace thinks Eurimene looks just like his former fiancéeRosmira. Soon after, it is revealed that she has disguisedherself and tracked Arsace down to Naples to confronthim and exact revenge. When Rosmira admits this toArsace, he claims to still love her. To prove his love,Rosmira makes Arsace swear he will not reveal her trueidentity to anyone, which he promises to do.When Eurimene/Rosmira discovers Armindo lovesPartenope but can’t bring himself to confess this, sheconsoles him. Armindo is still too shy to tell Partenope ofhis love. Partenope, though, has noticed Armindo hangingabout and demands to know why he’s moping about allthe time. Finally, he tells her of his love, but she won’taccept it because she’s with Arsace. Hearing this news,Eurimene/Rosmira decides to throw “his” hat into the ringand tells Partenope that he loves her too, hoping to upsether relationship with Arsace. Armindo, however, is notpleased to hear this, fearing he has yet another rival.Emilio arrives bringing with him a proverbial armyof lawyers in order to take over Partenope’s fashioncompany unless she agrees to marry him. She refusesand he then challenges her to war. Partenope will notbe intimidated by anyone, and decides to battle Emilio.Arsace, Ormonte, Armindo, and Eurimene/Rosmira allvow to defend her and fight Emilio. Each of these possiblesuitors, then, is after Partenope — and her power andmoney — for different reasons. Only Armindo is after herheart. Eurimene/Rosmira advises Armindo that he needsto be bold and daring.Act TwoThe second act opens with a battle, of sorts, betweenEmilio and Partenope. Their chosen weapon? Malfy Gin.Shot after shot is taken, and Partenope falters and asksArmindo to help her. As Arsace steps forward to battleEmilio (who is now quite popular with the paparazzicovering the event), Eurimene/Rosmira pushes himout of the way. Taking a shot, she chokes and is forcedto leave the scene of battle. Arsace is all that is leftbetween Partenope and defeat. He assuredly defeatsthe drunken Emilio, saving the day and saving Partenopefrom humiliation. A captive Emilio vents his anger to thevictors. Eurimene/Rosmira claims that she is the reasonEmilio was defeated. Arsace — because of his promise ofsilence — does not reveal her identity but he does denyEurimene’s claim. Because of this, Eurimene challengesArsace to a duel, creating a great deal of confusionbetween everyone.Armindo tells Partenope how much he loves her. Shebegins to melt a bit, but still is not sure. Arsace tries topatch things up with Rosmira, but she spurns him as heis torn between desire for Partenope and his love forRosmira. The characters all begin to express their deepest emotionsand desires over a series of soliloquys as the duel fastapproaches.Emilio chooses to support Arsace in the duel. Armindodecides to support Eurimene/Rosmira. Partenope andOrmonte set the stage for the duel. As it is just about tocommence, Arsace demands that they battle withouttheir shirts on. Eurimene hesitates and asks if he is boundto do so, and is told by all that Arsace is well within rightsto ask this. Eurimene now has no choice but to admit that“he” is really Rosmira. An apologetic Arsace asks to beforgiven, and Rosmira decides that all is not over, thereis hope for a future together. Partenope takes Armindoas her new partner, while Emilio decides he will depart Naples. All ends happily
