If only Nikolas had the wisdom to allow the Duma & the zemstvos some measure of modern self government, Russia would still have its Imperial family today. But no, Nikolas insisted on autocracy, wholly inappropriate for a modern state. The Romanovs shot thousands of starving peasants who were peacefully marching for bread... people have completely forgotten how hated the Imperial family was at that time.
