Photo highlights are posted above in the gallery.It was a typically drizzly late spring day in the Vancouver suburb of Burnaby where the CBC Music Festival ran continuous entertainment on two stages for thousands of festival goers. The attendees were not put off by the challenges of the weather. And neither were the performers. Crystal Shawanda's country roots run deep. Born Native American, she was automatically country, joined to the land and the real stories of everyday people. However, Shawanda means "dawn of a new day,” and Shawanda’s CBC Music Festival set was exactly that; a transition, a new sound and it is definitely Blues with a capital “B.” She admitted to being a bit nervous, but she sang from the heart like Etta James, belted it out like Janis and it seemed effortless and so genuine. Listen for yourself. I predict a new Juno or a Maple Blues award in her future. Crystal and her band played the Courtyard Stage at 2:50 pm at the recent CBC Music Festival 2014.
