Steppenwolf - 1972 Ride with me /Konserthuset Gothenburg, Sweden
Steppenwolf - Ride with MeKonserthuset Gothenburg, Sweden09/20/1972SoundboardWhen it comes to biker songs, Steppenwolf's Born To Be Wild will inevitably crop up. The song was featured in the 1969 movie, Easy Rider, and has been regarded as a biker anthem ever since. So, one can imagine the disappointment of the fans who picked up this Ride With Me bootleg from The Swingin' Pig label back then. A pretty good sounding show though a bit short, it just lacks Born To Be Wild to round things off.As a bonus, a live version performed at Fillmore in July 1968 is included here - (taken from the Flight Of The Sparrow boot).01 00:00 - Ride with Me [4:35]02 04:35 - Foggy Mental Breakdown [4:40]03 09:15 - Tighten up Your Wig [5:01]04 14:16 - Monster [9:57]05 24:13 - Magic Carpet Ride [4:22]06 28:35 - The Pusher [7:28]Bonus07 36:03 - Born To Be Wild [7:59]Live at Fillmore, July 1968Lineup:John Kay - lead vocals, guitar, harmonicaJerry Edmonton (R.I.P.) - drumsGoldy McJohn - keyboardsKent Henry - lead guitarGeorge Biondo - bassThis recording comes from the last Bill Graham 1960's show at the original Fillmore Auditorium before he moved his shows to the Fillmore West. For three days on July 2, 3, and 4, 1968, the line-up was CCR, IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY and STEPPENWOLF. This recording comes from one of those nights. It's the original STEPPENWOLF line-up touring on the first album, which was released in January 1968. It's funny to hear John Kay say that "Born To Be Wild" is their new single, and it's "bubbling under" the Top 100! Not long after it would soar to number 2 on the US charts. There are also a few songs from their second album, which was released in October 1968. (Notes on the Fillmore track, courtesy of bpthree)
