ELVIS PRESLEY: Something New (The 1962 Album)
I do not own the rights to the songs or film clips in this presentation: this video is uploaded as a creative demonstration only.In order to publish this video, I am obliged to remove the audio content of the song Easy Question: apologies for the disruption. In 1962, RCA released Elvis Presley’s third studio LP of the new decade, a random selection of songs appropriately entitled “Pot Luck”, recorded at various sessions over the past year.Elvis was in glorious voice, the Nashville A-Team musicians were in fine form and the songs were perfectly recorded, but the LP lacked a sense of focus and creativity. Also, two tracks were included** which should have been reserved for single-only release; a sure sign that Elvis had briefly taken his eye off the ball.In truth, Elvis had indeed actually recorded a dozen good-quality LP tracks during this period, and, when assembled in an appropriate fashion, they form a listenable and enjoyable album. The unique selling point of this studio LP is that for the only time in his entire career, Elvis decided not to draw upon any of the vast collection of old songs stored in his encyclopaedic memory. Every track in this project was new and purpose-written for Elvis by one of his team of ace songwriters, including Otis Blackwell, Doc Pomus, Don Robertson and Paul Evans. Most interestingly, each side of the LP ends with an Elvis Presley co-composition; the final song, written about his late mother, being particularly poignant. It is fascinating to consider what path Elvis could have taken had he pursued this approach during the 1960s.As it is, this LP offers a tantalising glimpse of what might have been, presented here with a collection of simple, mood-setting videos. This is “Elvis Presley: Something New”.01:12 Gonna Get Back Home Somehow03:44 Something Blue06:45 Im Yours09:09 For The Millionth And The Last Time11:17 Easy Question13:39 Youll Be Gone16:04 Night Rider18:30 Fountain Of Love20:49 I Met Her Today23:35 Just For Old Times Sake25:44 I Feel That Ive Known You Forever28:01 That Someone You Never Forget** Suspicion and Kiss Me Quick were both obvious single candidates: this was clarified when RCA did indeed release both as a 45rpm two years later, by which time the moment had passed.
