THE TORNADOS - IN THE 1960'S
The Tornados were an instrumental group formed by Record Producer Joe Meek in 1961 as a backing team for stars such as jBilly Fury and John Leyton. Their early line-up was: Alan Caddy,Clem Cattini, George Bellamy, Roger Lavern and Heinz Burt.Their first single 'Love And Fury' made a reasonable entry to the pop scene. However it was their second single 'Telstar' about the first communications Satellite which rocketed them to fame and will forever be associated with the early Tornados. It topped the UK charts in October 1962, and remarkably was also a number 1 hit in the United States charts. When Heinz Burt left in 1963 to pursue a solo career three alternate performers had brief spells with the group. However when Lavern, Bellamy and Cattini flitted the Tornados were a new line-up and in 1967 the group disbanded. The 'original' Tornados were beytween the years1961 and 1965. In 1991 they reformed with other artists from the Meek stable for a Joe Meek tribute concert at the Lewisham Theatre, London.
