The band played an 11-song greatest hits set in front of thousands of fans at an outdoor stage in London’s Olympic Park, opening with ‘All My Life’ and closing with ‘Everlong’.Prince Harry had personally introduced the band after delivering a speech which paid tribute to the wounded, injured and sick service personnel who had competed in the Invictus Games. He apologised for keeping Dave Grohl waiting, joking that the Foo Fighters frontman was “really old” anyway. The pair exchanged a hug when the band came on. Prince Harry then watched the performance from the crowd.Grohl also made reference to the Invictus Games athletes, announcing that ‘My Hero’ “goes out to all the heroes tonight”. He also described the moment a friend called him to ask if he could give Prince Harry his phone number and the subsequent conversation where the royal had explained the concept of the Invictus Games to him, and invited him to play. Before closing song ‘Everlong’, Grohl said: “Thank you very much for making this one of the most special occasions of our lives. I can’t wait to come back and play for you again. It won’t be too long,” before blowing the crowd a kiss.Earlier in the week, Foo Fighters had played three intimate UK shows at small venues under the moniker The Holy Shits. The Invictus Games is an international Paralympic-style multi-sport event, created by Britain's Prince Harry, in which wounded, injured or sick armed services personnel and their associated veterans take part in sports including wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, and indoor rowing. Named after Invictus, Latin for "unconquered" or "undefeated" the event was inspired by the Warrior Games, a similar event held in the United States. The first Invictus Games took place in 2014 at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, United Kingdom.
